Assisting In Assisted Living Decisions

Top Reasons In-Home Care Is A Positive Option For Seniors Who Need Assistance

Choosing the best care options for aging loved ones is never an easy choice and one that should not be taken lightly. Maintaining independence is one of the most important aspects of choosing care, as it allows seniors to feel in control of their care. In-home care is a good option for several reasons.

Keeps seniors in a familiar environment

Being moved to a nursing home or care facility can be very difficult for seniors who love their home and being in a familiar environment. This abrupt change can lead to depression and a lower quality of life for many seniors who are not willing to move. Remaining at home is less stressful for seniors and gives them the security of being near the things they are familiar with and allows them to enjoy the comforts of home.

Encourages independence

Maintaining a degree of independence is important for everyone but is especially vital for those who need some assistance with care. Remaining at home gives seniors a chance to participate in light household duties and perform personal care and hygiene with only minor assistance. Remaining independent is good for mental and physical health and gives seniors a purpose in life.

Prevents caregiver burnout

Caregiver burnout is a real thing and can lead to exhaustion and stress. Having in-home help on a regular basis for your aging loved one gives you time for a much-needed break. You can relax knowing your loved one is receiving the care they need, and you can concentrate on your work and family with fewer distractions.

Personalized care and companionship

Choosing in-home care will give your loved one more personalized care for their needs. They will enjoy working one-on-one with their care provider. It also provides your loved one with companionship and a chance to make new friends with their caregivers.

May lessen medical emergencies

When your loved one has an in-home care provider, it may reduce medication mistakes and help prevent accidents in the home. The in-home caregiver can provide home safety tips and administer medications to reduce the likelihood of medication overdosing or fall hazards in the home.

In-home care for seniors is often easier for seniors to adapt to versus receiving care in a nursing home or care facility. Seniors can remain in the place they love surrounded by the comforts of home. It also helps seniors to remain independent in performing some of their activities of daily living, which is good for maintaining independence.

About Me

Assisting In Assisted Living Determination

I never thought I would be putting a parent into assisted living. I always imagined that, when they couldn't live alone, my parents would live with me and I would care for them. What I didn't bargain for was my dad passing away when I was a young adult, and my mother developing dementia later on. I wasn't equipped to give my mom the care that she needed, and coming to that realization was hard. I know I can't be the only one who has struggled with the decision, so I created this site to share my thoughts and experiences with assisted living selection and management. I hope the information here can help you if you are facing such a choice.
